Overview

Taneytown was a designated Maryland Main Street in 2001 and has been a designated National Main Street Program since 2001 under the National Historic Trust.

Taneytown Main Street is a 501C3 under the Community Foundation of Carroll County has four components:

  • Organization (Volunteers, Board)
  • Design (Visual Improvements)
  • Promotion (Events-Fundraising)
  • Economic Restructuring ( Retention and Development of Business)

Each program is comprised of volunteers who bring their expertise and time to the table; through their efforts we have held Swing Into Spring, Invasion of Pumpkin People, along with downtown Farmers Market and other events that have generated pedestrian traffic in the downtown area.

The Design Committee spearheaded the restoration of the historical Giles Ice Cream Sign along with design and landscaping of the City and Municipal and purchase of the downtown clock. The Economic Restructuring has overseen the market and feasibility study for the future of our downtown revitalization program and also the Design Standards Guidelines.

Through our Main Street designated, Taneytown has been given the honor to become a Civil War Heritage designation and also it has increased our eligibility for numerous grants and programs.
