Mission Statement

Engaging the Community, Enriching our Culture, and Ensuring Conservation

The City of Taneytown’s Parks and Recreation Department believes in the philosophy of Community, Culture, and Conservation to ensure that all residents and visitors enjoy their recreational experiences in our City parks.

Our goal is to Engage our Community to not only enjoy our open spaces, but to be an active part of our parks improvement process.

Our goal is to Enrich our Culture by ensuring that everyone has access to the most pleasing aspects of our parks’ available recreational activities, whether it’s through a local sports program, a visit to one of our many playgrounds, enjoying one of our many recreational programs, attendance at a special event, or a simple walk on a nature trail.

Our goal is to Ensure Conservation by sustaining and improving the natural landscapes in our public spaces for the enjoyment of our greater community, now and for years to come.

The City of Taneytown Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to providing recreational activities for all Taneytown residents.  The parks, facilities, and programs are a very important part of the quality of life here in the city.  We are a department that is continually moving forward to upgrade and add facilities, maintain our existing facilities, preserve open space,  and coordinate new events and programs so our citizens will have the best recreation experience possible.

The local sports programs are second to none and are very well coordinated by numerous volunteers from our community.  Our parks offer several ball diamonds, a football field, numerous multi-purpose fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts, with more athletic fields coming in the future.

The City of Taneytown has 226 acres of parkland – the most of all of the Carroll County municipalities.  We have five public parks:  Taneytown Memorial Park, Roth Avenue Park, Taneytown High School Park & Skate Park, Roberts Mill Park and Dog Park, and Flickinger Park.  All of these parks are free of charge and open year round for all of our community to enjoy.  All park hours of operation are 6:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M., unless otherwise posted, with the exception of lighted fields.

The City of Taneytown also has two parks projected for development:  Bollinger Park and Festival Park   (these parks are not yet open to the public). There is also an expansion to Memorial Park slated, which will add 22 acres to the back side of this park which will be used for multi-purpose athletic fields and a pedestrian walking path (and other site amenities).
